Prof. John Camp
John Camp is Professor of Archaeology with the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, lecturer at The Archaeological Institute of America and was the Director of the Agora Excavations until 2022.
He has authored several books on the Athenian Agora and Greek archaeology as well as co-authoring Agora Picture Books translated into seven different languages.
Camp earned his B.A. from Harvard University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in classical archaeology from Princeton University. In 1966 he joined the Agora excavations, and in 1973 he was named the Assistant Director of the Agora excavations. And this year, the Archaeological Institute of America announced they are to award him the 2024 Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement.
Prof. Camp was brought to my attention by Amalia Kakissis, Archivist at the British School at Athens and I had the pleasure of collaborating with a his daughter Laura Camp, his niece Anna Bell and Laura Gawlinski, John's student who is one of the supervisors at the Agora Excavations in Athens, to create this minifigure portrait.
