10th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL LEGO CLASSICISM DAY - 2026
This page is dedicated to the official content that was created for the 10th Annual International LEGO Classicism Day, or ILCD.
Every year for International Lego Classicism Day we invite a classics university department, museum or ancient history institution to be the official host for the day and up to 12 institutions and individuals of all ages, called the BCE Pantheon, to create official content for the day across social media platforms.
Through this Host and BCE Pantheon, the aim is to help spread diverse content through social media about the ancient world to a wider, more general audience to encourage the understanding of how the ancient world is relevant to us all in contemporary life, by using LEGO and serious play.
This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Brick Classicists Empire it self starting with one simple minifigure given to Associate Prof. Tom Hillard at the Macquarie University, Sydney Australia, on the 20 February 2016. You can read more about the first year of the BCE and the first International Lego Classicism Day here.
The Host
This year we were honoured to have the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick, to be our official host for the day. As part of this we inducted the current Head of the Department, Prof. David Fearn, into the Brick Classicists Empire with his own Minifigure portrait.
They also arranged a special interview (conducted by one of their students Greta Bullman) with Prof. Andrew Wallace-Hadrill, who was awarded the Brick Classicists of the Year Award 2026 on the Day.
The University of Warwick also made an official announcement on Linked In saying: "We are so excited to be this year's hosts via our Classics Department. Warwick has a long history with the International Lego Classicism Day and its parent community, the Brick Classicists Empire"
A special thanks to Dr. Paul Grigsby for managing this hosting and Prof. Michael Scott for his ongoing support of the BCE.
The BCE Pantheon
Usually, we invite no more than 12 institutions and individuals to be involved in the BCE Pantheon, inspired by the Pantheon of 12 legendary Gods & Goddesses of Mount Olympus from Ancient Greek theology, but this year, due to the overwhelming enthusiasm for the 10th year, we decided to open the BCE Pantheon to over 12 so that everyone who wanted to could be a part of this very special celebration!
The BCE Pantheon consisted of people from around the world including New Zealand, the United Kingdom, USA, Italy, Greece and United Arab Emirates and it was organised and co-ordinated from Australia. Content was shared across Facebook, Instagram, X-Twitter, Bluesky and Linked In, and through online blogs by participating academics:
Writing on Mount Hymettos… in Duplo! by Prof. Pippa Steele, LEGO Katabasis Book Nook by Dr. Cora Beth Fraser and Lego and Latin by Dr. Helen Forte and her students through her Minimus program.
This year the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities, at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, held a special LEGO exhibition called Bricks of Olympus featuring depictions of the Ancient Greek epic adventure of Odysseus. It was created by LEGO artists Jake Roos and Emily Fryer (Emily is also a museum conservator) who also participated in ILCD separately. The exhibition is open to the public until 19th April, 2026.
